Letter to facebook group

Hope you are having a good day,

Hi, my name is Lawrence Joss. I’m an alienated father of three daughters and one grandchild.

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful work you do on your facebook group. Groups are a lifeline to me and so many others struggling with alienation, isolation, loss, and fear.

I wanted to share a resource with you and also ask if it would be appropriate to share notices of weekly zoom support group meetings on your facebook group?

I have been attending online support group meetings via zoom with an organization called PA-A.org (Parental Alienation Anonymous; www.pa-a.org). They offer free 12-step meetings six times a week with new meetings starting monthly as needed. These groups are peer to peer and for all people struggling with different aspects and severity of Parental Alienation. The great thing about the group is that it is always 100% free; there is no aspect of anyone profiting off of our pain and loss.

PA-A groups are facilitated by other alienated parents and have shared leadership. They are built upon the Al-Anon Family Groups which have been around for nearly 80 years and offer a credible formula for recovery and healing. These groups are recovery based. Meaning they are a place of healing and although we share some of our stories, the main focus is on our experience strength and hope. We discuss resources, tools and use of the 12 steps to take a closer look at our lives in order to reclaim them.

PA-A meetings follow an intentionally designed format at every meeting to create safety and consistency. Folks get to share for 4 minutes maximum so that no one dominates the meeting and so that there is time for every one to share if they choose. Each meeting has a unique topic and different leadership. This shared leadership design ensures there is no hierarchy.

PA-A MEETINGS ARE THE ONLY SUPPORT OUT THERE THAT IS FREE, RUN BY OTHER ALIENATED PARENTS, AND OFFERS A SOLUTION TO THE EMOTIONAL PAIN OF PA. BECAUSE OF MY PARTICIPATION IN PA-A RECOVERY, I HAVE REGAINED A GROUNDED RELATIONSHIP WITH MYSELF AND AM THE BEST PARENT I HAVE EVER BEEN IN THIS MOMENT.

I believe PA-A is the best opportunity to reunite with my kids from a more stable integrated place. Watching people change week to week on meetings is remarkable. Some folks are looking for a quick fix and these meetings don’t serve them. Others want help and want to do their own emotional work and these meetings liberate them.

We would love to have you attend if this feels like it might be appropriate! Also, I want to let as many folks as possible know about this free resource (PA-A).

Would you approve me posting 1x a week with their meeting announcement either directly to the facebook group or through you?

If there is anything I can offer that might be useful to you or your facebook group please let me know.

I have included a couple of basic links below about 12 step meetings, the PA-A website, and other related topics.

Hi there,

I am reaching out to introduce our organization Parental Alienation Anonymous (PA-A, www.pa-a.org-A.org) as a tool for you and your clients. PA-A is a fellowship offering free 12 step support groups online six times a week via zoom. PA-A was built upon the Al-Anon Family Groups recovery program and was adapted for folks struggling with parental alienation and estrangement. We use these terms because they are useful in identifying who we are and yet we acknowledge that these words can be divisive at times as well. They are the best option in this current moment.

My name is Lawrence Joss, and I am the director of Parental Alienation Anonymous. I am an alienated father of three and daughters and one grandchild. I have been navigating these waters for 16 years so I have a plethora of first hand experience.

Like other 12-step meetings, PA-A meetings are peer to peer. This shared leadership design ensures there is no hierarchy. PA-A meetings follow an intentionally designed format at every meeting to create safety and consistency. Folks get to share for 4 minutes maximum so that no one dominates the meeting and so that there is time for every one to share if they choose. Each meeting has a unique topic and sharing is from the “I” perspective, so there is no cross talk. PA-A has a clear framework of the 12 steps which helps folks to reground, take accountability for their lives, and start to address some of their habitual coping mechanisms and behaviors. This is not a replacement for therapy! It is a necessary adjunct to support healthy living. These groups are recovery based. Meaning they are a place of healing and although we share some of our stories, the main focus is on our experience strength and hope. We discuss resources, tools and use of the 12 steps to take a closer look at our lives in order to reclaim them.

We have seen remarkable results over this 1st year. Most of the folks that have reunited with their kids still attend meetings to support their continued growth and relationship building. This pathology does not leave the family dynamic just because a family is reunited. The parents who have reunited with their alienated children have been active in the PA-A program and growing emotionally and spiritually. Interestingly, the parents who have been reunited were all in the early stages (1-12 months) of alienation, as opposed to longer term alienation. This is an area that could benefit from more attention and scholarly research. There are shifts for parents who are struggling with longer term alienation as well and many are starting to create new patterns of emotional resourcing, a plethora of support resources and changing how they communicate.

Please feel free to use our resources if you think it could be useful to your clients. I welcome any feedback, objections, questions and or suggestions – we are always trying to improve our presentation and process.

I invite you to share any services or resources that would be beneficial to the folks we are supporting. I would love to hear about these and add them to our resource list.

If there is anything I can offer that might be useful to you or your clients please let me know.
